Three months ago, we reported that Pizza Hut ($YUM) was looking to make headway in the ongoing Pizza marketshare war against Domino's ($DPZ) and Papa John's ($PZZA) through a beer delivery service.
While not much has changed in Pizza Hut's location count, Domino's gained a few locations. And Papa John's, despite its infamous co-founder John Schnatter selling $6 million in stock yesterday, is still losing slices of the Pizza War pie.
As seen in our brand-new embeddable pie chart, Papa John's now has 3,267 locations in the United States, a decrease of 133 stores since our last Pizza War update. Meanwhile, Domino's saw a five store increase — now at 5,904 total locations — during the same time period, and Pizza Hut remains stagnant in the database.
Pizza Chain | # of Locations (Today) | # of Locations (2/1) | Change |
---|---|---|---|
Pizza Hut | 6,373 | 6,373 | 0 |
Domino's | 5,904 | 5,889 | 5 |
Papa John's | 3,267 | 3,400 | -133 |
With Papa John's also posting a loss last quarter due to franchisee assistance and legal fees pertaining to Mr. Schnatter, one may question the brand's hopes at dethroning the Yum! Brands-backed giant, or even leaping over the international powerhouse of Domino's.
