Now that Amazon is opening up a huge HQ2 campus in Long Island City, New York, it's fanned the flames of its hiring efforts in The Big Apple. Openings in New York at Amazon made a noticeable spike in the new year, jumping from 502 openings in New York on January 1 to 578 as of yesterday, and the trend shows no signs of stopping.
This 15% growth in job openings in New York far outpaces Amazon's job-listings growth overall.
During the same time period, overall Amazon job listings grew just 3.6%. In other words, Amazon's hiring focus certainly appears to be on the New York area.
The vast majority of the new Amazon New York jobs are in Software Developement and Solutions Architecture, followed by Sales & Advertising and Business Development.

CNBC reported earlier that the first Amazon listings that specifically referenced "HQ2" were posted to Amazon's careers site. Since that story ran, however, the job listings have vanished from Amazon's site. Amazon issued a cagey statement in response to the CNBC report, simply saying that the jobs "are among the hundreds of roles that [Amazon is] currently hiring for in ... existing NYC offices."
The statement continues, "We haven't posted roles in our Long Island City headquarters yet, but we're excited to kick off our recruiting process later in 2019."
If this hiring spike tells us anything, however, it seems that recruiting process has begun.
