Happy New Year!
We hope you've recovered well from the New Year festivities, as today is the first working day of the year. Here are the numbers you need to know today:
55.6%
The overall amount of inflation from 1997 to 2017, according to economics professor Mark J. Perry. This number, of course, is more staggering with context: a college education has gotten so expensive between 1997 and 2017, that it has tripled the rate of inflation. Meanwhile, the cost of television sets and toys have gotten drastically more affordable in the past decade.
92,844
The recorded attendance of the Rose Bowl game between THE Ohio State Buckeyes and the Washington Huskies. In what was Buckeye Head Coach Urban Meyer's final game before his planned retirement, Ohio State beat Washington 28-23 in front of a sold-out crowd. There was not a seat left in Pasadena according to Reddit user The Droid Man, who calculated that the Rose Bowl Stadium was at 101.06% of its stated capacity during the game.
Meanwhile, earlier in 2018, Raymond James Stadium in Tampa Bay was filled to 21.34% of its capacity when the Marshall Thundering Herd beat down the South Florida Bulls 38-20 in the Gasparilla Bowl.
2019
The year we are in... And the year that the cult classic film Blade Runner is set in.
Fortunately, the world hasn't become a dystopia yet, but there is still 364 days left in the year.
Will there be 106 million people in Los Angeles? Bioengineered androids? Flying cars?
All we know is that it is quite an experience to live in fear, isn't it?
